FAQ

What is the Chamber of Commerce?

Registered under the federal Boards of Trade Act.  The Chamber of Commerce is a non profit organization comprised of members who represent businesses and professional organizations.  By being united, we are a voice that is heard and recognized in addressing the business issues and concerns of our members, Locally, Provincially and Federally.  Throughout Canada there are 420 Chambers of Commerce and Boards of Trade, representing 192,000 businesses of all sizes in all sectors of the economy and in all regions.

How is the Chamber governed?

The membership elect a Board of Directors to govern the Chamber. Chamber governance and operations development takes place through various standing and ad hoc committees.

Who finances the Chamber?

Our Chamber receives no government funding and relies solely on membership dues and other non-dues revenue streams to support its activities. This independence from government funding frees the Chamber to be a strong, independent advocate on behalf of our members.

What does the Chamber do?

The Chamber of Commerce is a catalyst – a common vehicle through which business and professional people work together for the common good of the community. A better community means better business conditions and the Chamber works for a better community for everyone.

The Chamber lobbies on behalf of its membership, educates the community about business issues, and exposes the public to our thriving business environment
